What is a small group?
A small group is a gathering of approximately 10–12 people who meet together regularly for fellowship, Bible study and prayer. Small groups were created in order to connect people to one another and to the life of Pinelake while helping them apply basic biblical principles to their everyday life. We like to refer to this process as "experiencing life together."
What do you mean “experience life together”?
The weekly small group gatherings are only one part of what it means to be a part of a small group. To experience life together requires that individuals make their relationship with other group members a priority. This consists of a willingness to care for one another and to enjoy fellowship outside of group meeting times.
Are all groups the same?
No. At Pinelake, we have all kinds of groups because we have all kinds of people. We have groups for married couples, empty nesters, newlyweds, singles, etc. In addition, we have groups such as Celebrate Recovery and DivorceCare that exist to minister to specific needs and hurts. Regardless of your situation, we want to help you find the gift of friends at Pinelake with whom you can enjoy and experience the Christian life.
Why should I join a small group?
Here are four very important reasons. First, you’ll begin to feel like you’re part of the Pinelake family and not just a face in the crowd. Second, you’ll immediately be surrounded by people who will provide a caring network of love and support. Third, you’ll begin to understand the Bible better as you study the scriptures with others. Finally, you’ll discover the joy of experiencing life with genuine friends who accept you for who you are and for who you are becoming.
Do I have to be a member of Pinelake to join a small group?
Small groups are open to both attenders and members alike. (Membership is required to lead a group.)
How often do small groups meet?
The actual day and time of our meetings are determined by each individual group. Currently, the majority of our groups meet on Sunday evening.
How long does a typical small group stay together?
We do not force groups to multiply at a predetermined time. However, we do encourage all groups to help expand the Small Group Ministry by training new leaders who can eventually launch a new group. It is not uncommon for groups to be together for 12-18 months before helping to launch a new group.
Where do small groups meet?
Most of our groups meet in homes located throughout the metro area.
What happens at a small group meeting?
Every group is different but there are some common denominators. Most groups have a time for fellowship. The central growth component is a study of something very relevant to the members of the group. Our groups are designed to encourage discussion and engage each person in the process. Groups also have the opportunity to pray for one another.
What do groups study?
Group leaders work with small group staff to determine study options. Many groups build discussion around the Sunday morning sermon while others use a small group study. Periodically, the whole church will work through a coordinated series (sermon & small groups) together.

Is there childcare available?
Childcare is available at the church during the school year with a reservation.
Can I start my own group?
We love it when people are interested in leading or hosting a group of their own. If you’d like more information about leading or hosting, please email smallgroups@pinelake.org.
How do I get into a group?
People join a group in one of the following ways:
- They are invited by a friend or member to visit a Small Group.
- They complete a Small Group Interest Form at the Small Group Kiosk or online.
- They contact the Small Groups Ministry at 601.829.4577 or 601.829.4540 or by emailing smallgroups@pinelake.org.
