Gateway Rescue Mission provides meals to anyone in need and an overnight shelter for men. Gateway has thrift stores in Pearl and Magee that support the ministry. They are developing programs to address the growing number of
homeless women and children in our area. Gateway will be converting a warehouse into a place to hold worship services and community outreach activities. Opportunities are available seven-days-a-week and include serving meals, general clean-up, construction and leading chapel services.
Center for Pregnancy Choices (CPC) has locations in north Jackson and Pearl. CPC provides free services which advise women and men of abortion alternatives. CPC also offers medical tests, counseling, support groups and maternity and baby clothes. Opportunities are available Monday through Saturday and include mentoring, leading scrapbook classes and general clean-up.
Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) is a domestic violence shelter located in Pearl that provides emergency shelter
to violence victims. The Center also offers therapy, counseling and case management to assist victims in rebuilding
their lives. They assist with job counseling, life skills and apartment location. A resale shop helps to support the ministry.
Opportunities are available Monday through Saturday and include leading Bible studies, life skill classes, construction
and general clean-up.
Mission First offers medical, dental, social and educational services as a means of introducing people to the saving
grace of Jesus Christ. They also are actively involved in the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhood in inner-city
Jackson. Opportunities are available throughout the week and include health care, tutoring and construction.
HANDS (Helping Americans Needing Disaster Support) provides disaster relief on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
One of their primary projects is an entire neighborhood that is under construction. A new volunteer center will be
completed during the first part of 2008 and will be used to house groups that participate in this endeavor. Opportunities
in construction and clean up are available through our 48x48 weekend trips.
We Will Go Ministry reaches out to the community by providing meals, holding worship services and loving people.
David & Amy Lancaster and their children are faithful in sharing the gospel and God’s love to the people of inner-city
Jackson. Opportunities are available Saturday and Sunday and include construction, making “care packages,” cooking
and serving meals.
Southside Baptist Church leads Bible studies in apartments within their community. They minister to the homeless in
South Jackson by providing meals and shelter, and have a food pantry that feeds over one thousand families per year.
They are spreading the Gospel and sharing God’s love with the people in their community. Opportunities are available
throughout the week and include assisting with Sunday services, serving in the homeless ministry and assisting with
youth activities.
Perkins Center is dedicated to developing Christian leaders, total community renewal and racial reconciliation. The
Perkins Center has after school and summer programs as well as programs at local schools. Opportunities are available
Monday through Saturday, including tutoring, activity leadership, fine arts and construction.
HIS Heart Ministries (Calvary Baptist Church) offers an after-school program, Bible studies and activities for youth.
They are focused upon building relationships with children and their families. Opportunities are available on Mondays
and Wednesdays, including tutoring, assisting with Bible studies and youth activities.
Neighborhood Christian Centers offers tutoring, Bible study, summer programs and more for children in the inner-city
community. They are building relationships that allow for opportunities to share the Gospel and to invest spiritually and
practically in the lives in their community. Opportunities are available Monday through Friday.
